Says tennis player Ti Chen from China, while raving about  ‘3 Idiots’

Tennis pro Ti Chen, the top seed player at the ongoing Toyota International Tennis Federation Open, has been enjoying his stay in the City. Ti Chen, who is from China, says that he is an adventurous person and loves each country that he has travelled for its uniqueness. In the City, he has been going for yoga classes and has fallen absolutely in love with it.

Ti Chen has an Italian coach and who he says not only helps him on the court but also off it. Because of his coach, he got introduced to the world of opera. “I love the opera that they have in Italy. Ultimately, it’s all about getting to know more about the place. For instance, China is the hub for massages and gambling. Similarly, in Israel I love to fly over the sea. In India, I love the palaces. Each place here has its own distinctive features,” he says.

Ti Chen says that people in India are rather calm. “There’s absolutely no rush,” he adds.
Coming back to his sport — tennis — what made him choose that?

“I  had other plans for myself before I chose tennis. I had not really planned to become a tennis player. I wanted to become a teacher because my father is one,” he says. But now that he is a professional player does he get any jitters before the matches? “I get nervous. Anybody who says he doesn’t get jitters is not taking the game seriously. I also play tennis to discover something new.”

Apart from tennis, exercising, training, and athletics, Ti Chen enjoys listening to music and watching a lot of drama. Speaking of which, he recalls the movie ‘3 Idiots’ and exclaims how much he loved watching it.

“I love watching movies. Earlier, Indian movies used to be just about song and dance. But now I think they have raised the bar to a whole new level. There are many meaningful movies that are being made these days,” he says.

Although Ti Chen’s family plays an important role in his life, he complains that he hardly gets time with them. “Usually, when I’m at home, we enjoy a quiet meal. We talk and share good things together,” he says.

His dislike for spicy food makes him carry some home stuff when he’s travelling. Snack bars are his favourite pick. When he wants to go easy on his diet, he loves to munch on McDonalds French Fries, and chocolates.
